Allyn Evans

Background

Certified Toastmaster (CTM) and author Allyn Evans enjoys talking to women and girls the most. "That’s the focus of my writing. I’ve always been told to, ‘write what you know.’ Well, okay, I was a girl and now I’m a middle-aged woman who not only has experienced what I write about, but also has sought understanding."

Using a storytelling approach to share her message, Evans offers a wide-range of subjects targeted to female audiences. "Currently, my favorite assignment is serving as trainer for GirlTech participants at the technology centers across the state of Oklahoma. One frequently requested program is We’ve Come a Long Way Baby, an entertaining pictorial review celebrating firsts in women’s history."

Evans earned a BA in Psychology and later received an MBA from Texas Tech University. Currently, Evans serves as a consultant/trainer for GirlTech programs and speaks regularly to local, state and national audiences. In addition to writing books and articles, Evans is an adjunct Speech instructor for Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) in Stillwater.

Grab the Queen Power is the first step on the journey to find a better way.  Evans explains, "In my adulthood, I wondered why, with all my advantages, I never felt like a powerful force in my own life, so I started searching for answers. My search took me back to my hometown and the culture I was raised in. I talked to many women, read many books, and discovered I wasn't the only one wondering why a woman usually comes last in her own life. I heard the messages we were given and believed. And I realized there must be a better way...for us, for the culture, for our children."

Evans shares what inspired her to write her story, "After serving on the jury in my hometown for a meth case, I had so many unanswered questions. We had agreed the defendant committed two crimes. The evidence was solid, so why, weeks later, was I tossing and turning at night? The sentence. Though we had followed the recommendation of the D. A., we, the jury, had been unjust. I needed to understand how twelve intelligent people could be led so harshly astray. The answer I found reflects a much larger picture of a very human and often disastrous need to accommodate authority."

Evans second book, a book written for parents of adolescent girls, is currently in the hands of her editor.
