Freeta Jones, Ed.D

Diversity Workshop Fascilitator and Creator of

Physical Education for the New Millennium

Background

Dr. Freeta Jones, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Health Studies, had a dream and pursued it.  Through a partnership with several entities, she integrated physical activity and fostered peer relationships of elementary school children through "Physical Education for the New Millennium."  This program has successfully raised the bar on physical education, creating a multi-faceted learning experience that the children perceive as "fun."  Activities range from dance, to hula-hoops, to sign language.  Each school presents individual acts, then all of the more than 400 students perform together during this very impressive gathering.

Main Focus

Take a large group of elementary school children from several different schools.  Add a class of university students eager to teach and learn.  Throw in matching t-shirts to render the group homogenous.  Sneak in some fun socialization and self-esteem building moves.  From this recipe you get students learning several important skills at once, and celebrating diversity.
